How long a theory pass lasts, retaking after a fail, and finding a lost certificate number.

How long your theory pass lastsA UK theory test pass lasts two years. You must pass your practical driving test within two years of the theory test date, or the pass expires and you have to sit the theory test again in full. The DVSA does not extend it.
Retaking after a failYou can rebook a UK theory test straight away, but the earliest date you can choose is three working days after the test you failed. There is no limit on how many times you can retake it, and each attempt costs the full fee.
Finding a lost pass numberUse the DVSA's online service to recover a lost UK theory test pass certificate number. You need your driving licence number and the details you booked with. You do not need to retake the test, and there is no fee for recovering the number.
