What you need to book, what it costs, and how to change or cancel without losing the fee.

What you need to bookTo book a UK car theory test you need a provisional driving licence, your licence number, an email address and a debit or credit card. You can book from your 17th birthday, or from 16 if you get the higher rate of the mobility part of PIP.
What the theory test costsA UK car theory test costs £23, booked through the official DVSA service. The fee is the same wherever you book it, there is no concession, and every retake costs the full £23 again — a failed test is not a partial credit against the next one.
Changing or cancellingChange or cancel a UK theory test through the DVSA booking service. You must give at least three full working days' notice or you lose the fee — and the DVSA counts Monday to Saturday as working days, so a Saturday counts against you.
