Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the UK theory test before you book.
Two parts. First, multiple-choice questions on driving theory, rules and signs — the count depends on your category (50 for car/motorcycle, 100 for LGV/PCV/ADI). Second, a hazard perception clip section with 14 video clips you score by clicking on developing hazards.
Official fees are £23 for car or motorcycle. For LGV and PCV, part 1a multiple choice is £26 and part 1b hazard perception is £11; Driver CPC part 2 case studies cost £23 where required. ADI Part 1 costs £81. Fees apply again for a retake, so check GOV.UK for the latest amount.
Two years from the day you pass. If you don't pass the practical test within that window, you'll need to retake the theory.
Yes. Passing the theory test is required before you move on to the practical test stage.
